Portishead Town Council is seeking a proactive and highly organised Parks and Greenspace Officer to help maintain and enhance the town's valued parks, open spaces and community assets.
Following the devolution of assets from North Somerset Council, this is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in ensuring Portishead's green spaces, play areas, lake grounds, street furniture and public realm are maintained to the highest possible standard. Working closely with the Assets and Facilities Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day performance of grounds maintenance, street scene and cleaning contracts, carrying out regular inspections, monitoring KPIs and ensuring contractors deliver against agreed standards.
Salary: £39,862 - £42,839 (LC1 SCP 29-32)
Hours: Full-time - 37 hours per week – with flexibility
Location: The Folk Hall, Portishead, North Somerset
The role includes:
- monitoring grounds maintenance and street scene contracts
- inspecting parks, playgrounds, open spaces and public assets
- coordinating repairs and specialist maintenance works
- overseeing public convenience cleaning standards
- managing the operational use and maintenance of the Lake Grounds
- monitoring water quality, wildlife welfare and lake infrastructure
- programming and supporting the work of the Town Rangers
- identifying opportunities for environmental improvements and enhancements
- responding to enquiries from residents, councillors and community groups
We are looking for someone with:
- experience of contract monitoring, site inspections or operational service delivery
- strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- excellent communication and stakeholder liaison skills
- the ability to prioritise workloads and manage multiple contractors and tasks
- experience of parks, grounds maintenance, facilities or public realm services
- a proactive, practical and community-focused approach
