Unitary Authority Area Groups

Avon Local Councils' Association

Unitary Authority Area Groups

There are three self-administrating Unitary Authority Area Groups (operating in North SomersetBath & North East Somerset and South Gloucestershire), who provide strategic links between ALCA and the relevant Unitary Authorities.  In addition to a number of Ordinary Meetings each year, all of the Area Groups hold an AGM to select the representatives for the ALCA Regional Committee for that area. Motions for consideration by the NALC Policy Committee for Campaigns for Change are delivered through the Area Groups.

Not all the Avon area has the privilege of local representation by a Local Council. The whole of the City of Bristol, the City of Bath. Local Councils are the grass roots and most important level of local government, and ALCA is committed to developing Local Councils in the areas that currently lack local representation and the support that a Local Council provides.
